Why one Africa eSIM beats 36 separate eSIMs

Data across Africa is patchy and expensive if you buy it at the airport. A regional eSIM gives you one predictable price for the whole trip instead of registration paperwork in every country.

Great for overland routes, volunteering trips and business travel between hubs such as Nairobi, Lagos, Accra and Cape Town.

A regional eSIM is a single data plan that keeps working when you cross a border. Instead of buying, installing and topping up a different eSIM in every country, you install the Africa eSIM once and it stays connected across all 36 destinations in this plan — same QR code, same data bucket, same price per gigabyte.

That matters most on multi-country trips: interrailing, island hopping, a work trip with three airports in five days, or a cruise that touches four countries in a week. Every switch between local eSIMs costs you time at exactly the wrong moment — in a taxi queue, at a border crossing, or when your ride-hailing app needs data right now.

Your phone picks the strongest partner network in each country automatically, so you get 5G or 4G LTE wherever it is available without touching a setting. There is no roaming surcharge, no contract and no deposit: you pay once for the data you chose, and you can top up from your JamboSim account whenever you need more.

Frequently asked questions about the Africa eSIM

Does the Africa eSIM work in every country it lists?

Yes. All 36 countries in the coverage list are included in the same plan at no extra cost. Your phone connects to a local partner network in each one, and you can check exactly which networks per country before you buy.

What happens when I leave the region?

The eSIM simply stops finding a partner network outside the plan area, so it cannot run up any charges. If your route continues beyond this region, either add a country eSIM for that leg or pick our Global plan, which covers 200+ countries.

How fast is the connection?

You get the same 5G or 4G LTE speeds as local customers on the partner network, wherever that network offers them. Speed depends on the country, the network and how busy the cell is — not on the fact that you are using an eSIM.

Can I keep my own phone number?

Yes. The eSIM is a second, data-only line next to your physical SIM, so WhatsApp, Signal, iMessage and two-factor SMS keep working on your own number while your data runs over JamboSim.

How long does installation take?

Under five minutes. You receive the QR code by email right after checkout, scan it on Wi-Fi, and the profile installs itself. Our setup guide walks through it screen by screen for both iPhone and Android.

Can I top up if I run out of data?

Yes. Log in to your JamboSim account, open My eSIMs and add a top-up to the same eSIM. The extra data is queued on the existing profile, so there is nothing new to install or scan.

Can I share the data with my laptop or a travel buddy?

Yes, personal hotspot and tethering are included on all plans in this region. Bear in mind that a laptop can burn through data much faster than a phone, so pick a larger bundle if you plan to work from cafés.

Will it work on my phone?

It works on any eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked device — most iPhones from the XS onwards, recent Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and many other Android models. Our compatible devices list has the full overview.
