From the airport to the city

Getting from Zurich Airport (ZRH) to the city centre is a breeze. The absolute best way is by train. Head down to the station underneath the airport and catch any train to Zurich Hauptbahnhof (HB). It takes just 10 to 12 minutes and costs 7 CHF for an adult ticket. Trains run frequently, so you will rarely wait more than a few minutes. Taxis are available but will easily set you back 50 to 70 CHF for a slightly longer ride.

Getting around

Zurich's public transport (ZVV) is legendary. Trams, buses, and trains run like clockwork. A 24-hour ticket for zones 110 (the city centre) costs 9.40 CHF and lets you hop on and off endlessly. You can buy tickets on the SBB Mobile app, which is a lifesaver. Zurich is also very walkable, especially around the Altstadt. If you prefer cycling, e-bikes and scooters from Tier or Lime are scattered everywhere. Just remember, there are no physical barriers at train stations, but ticket checks are frequent.

Wi-Fi vs your own data

Zurich has free public Wi-Fi in certain areas, but it is often time-limited or requires SMS verification, which can be tricky without a local number. Relying on café Wi-Fi is fine for a quick coffee break, but less ideal when you are lost in the winding streets of the Old Town or trying to catch the last tram. A JamboSim eSIM gives you constant, secure data. No hunting for hotspots or dealing with slow, overcrowded networks.

Local know-how

Zurich is expensive, but you don't need to pay for water! The city has over 1,200 public fountains, and the water is perfectly safe and delicious. Bring a reusable bottle. When it comes to tipping, service is always included in the bill by law, but rounding up to the nearest franc or adding 5-10% for excellent service is polite. Finally, remember that shops (including supermarkets) close early on Saturdays and are almost entirely shut on Sundays, except at the main train station.
