For a one-week trip with maps, messaging, social media and the occasional Netflix episode in the hotel, 5 GB is the sweet spot for most travellers. 1. Check your phone supports eSIM (most phones from 2019 onwards do - dial 06 and look for an EID). 2. Order your plan and open the e-mail with your QR code. 3. On strong Wi-Fi at home: Settings → Mobile/Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the QR code. 4. Label it "Tunisia" and leave data roaming ON for that eSIM - this is normal and correct for a travel eSIM. 5. Louages and trains: shared louage vans are the fastest way between cities, but schedules live in people's heads, not apps. Offline maps plus data for live translation is a winning combo. Cash is still king: many medina shops and small cafés are cash-only. Data helps you find an ATM before you need one. Sahara trips: in the deep desert around Ksar Ghilane or Erg Douz, coverage thins out. Download your maps and playlists in Tozeur or Douz before heading out.
